Class 1 - Pathways Training Program

Total Hours: 131.25 (122 without Air Brakes)
  • 40 hours of online training ($250.00) through driver.training.alberta.ca
  • 4 hours of classroom training
  • 60 hours of in-vehicle training (Core Program)
    • 43 hours of driving time
    • 3 hours of off-road maneuvers (hook/unhook, backing)
  • 10 hours of in-yard training (equipment inspection)
  • 9.25 hours for Air Brake training (add $250)

  • 17-25 hours Class 1 (Competence Building Program) for non-restricted Alberta license
    • 3 hours in the yard (equipment inspection)
    • 14-22 hours in-cab

Restricted Program Costs
Base Program: $7,000.00
Add Airbrakes (If Required): $7,250.00
Add Class Instructor (If Required): $7,750.00
Add Airbrakes and Class Instructor: $8,000.00

Unrestricted Program Costs
Base Program: $9,000.00
Add Airbrakes (If Required): $9,250.00
Add Class Instructor (If Required): $9,750.00
Add Airbrakes and Class Instructor: $10,000.00

This price includes the use of tractor-trailer unit for the 2-hour Government road test.

Class 1 - Experience and Equipment Equivalency

Total Hours: 40
  • 3.5 hours classroom
  • 28.5 hours in vehicle
    • 15 hours driving time
    • 13.5 hours off-road maneuvers (unhook/hooking and backing)
  • 8 hours of in-yard training (equipment inspection)

Total Costs: $4,000.00

(includes tractor-trailer for 2 hour Government road test.)

Note: this course requires a valid Class 3 license with 2 years of verified Class 3 experience. The student must apply to the government to have experience verified.

Class 1 - Farm-restricted License

Total Hours: 46.5
  • 30 hours of in-vehicle, in-yard and off-road training
  • 8.5 hours Air Brake 'Q' course
  • 8 hours of classroom training

Total Costs: $4,000.00

(includes tractor-trailer for 2 hour Government road test.)

Additional fees may include.
Class 1 Road-test Permit: $217.00
Class 1 Knowledge Test: $17.00
Class 1 Medical Examination: Ask your doctor
Additionally, after 12-months you will need to take the 17-25 Hour Class 1 Competence Building Program to have provincial restructions removed: $6,000.00 (including air brakes)

Class 3 - Manual Transmission

Total Hours: 33.5
  • 6 hours of classroom training
  • 11 hours of one-on-one driving
  • 9.25 hours of air brake training (add $250)
  • 4 hours in-yard training (equipment inspection)
  • 4 hours off-road maneuvering and tasks

Total Costs
With Air Brake: $3,000.00
Without Air Brake: $2,750.00

Price includes the use of tractor unit for the Government Road Test.

Air Brakes

Total Hours: 9.25
  • 6 hours of classroom training
  • 1 hour practical demonstration (components and air brake build-up test)
  • 0.75 hours in-cab practice practical test
  • 0.25 hours in-cab practical air brake test
  • 0.25 hours in-cab retest (when required on different day)
  • 0.5 hour lunch
  • Two 0.25 hour coffee breaks

Total Costs: $250.00

(this price includes the Alberta Air Brakes Student Manual)

Load Securement

  • Review of NSC Standard 10
  • Securement devices
  • WLL (Working Load Limit)
  • Proper use of tiedowns
  • Unmarked tiedowns
  • Anchor points
  • Insecure objects
  • Cargo placement and restraint
  • Minimum number of tiedowns
  • Commodity specific requirements
  • Hands-on using securement equipment strap, chain and edge protection

$75.00/Hour and $0.64/Kilometer for Travel Outside of Calgary

Course completion certificates are issued per student.

Professional Driver Evaluation

  • Pre-trip inspection on power unit
  • Proper hook-up procedure/Couple trailer
  • Pre-trip inspection on trailer
  • Test drive includes intersection, turning, vehicle efficiency, attitude, braking, slowing, stopping, speed, passing, changing lanes and overall ability for safety
  • Backing / 90-degree blind side back-in
  • Proper decouple procedure post trip

Total Costs
School Equipment:
2-Hour Class 1 Evaluation: $260.00
1.5-Hour Class 3 Evaluation: $195.00

Customer Equipment:
2-Hour Class 1 Evaluation: $200.00
1.5-Hour Class 3 Evaluation: $150.00

Outside of Calgary Travel:
$75.00/Hour and $0.64/Kilometer

Out of Calgary travel fees are subject to change without notice.
Course completion certificates are issued per student.

All Training Performed on 18 Speed Manual Transmission.
